PHUKET CANCELS THE APRIL TO NOVEMBER ‘LOW SEASON’

SummerinPHUKET

M E D I A R E L E A S E

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 20, 2009

LOCAL BUSINESS GROUPS RE-BRAND THE PERIOD AS ‘SUMMER SEASON’

Phuket, Thailand: A group of local hoteliers and businesses in Phuket, Thailand have “cancelled” Low Season – April 15 through November 1 – and are renaming the period more appropriately Summer Season to better reflect the fact that Phuket is one of the world’s top year-round vacation and second home destinations.

“We’re going to have a bit of fun with this campaign which starts with ‘cancelling’ the Low Season,” says Nick Anthony, Managing Director of Indigo Real Estate, “and hopefully in the process expose to the world the fact that during summer (April-November), the period formerly known as the Low Season, Phuket has an abundance of delightful sunny weather. Cooling afternoon showers sometimes refresh the island and setup spectacular sunsets and it’s also a time of good value with lower occupancy, great deals on rates and generally a quieter island that hums with local festivals.”

The six-month international public relations campaign and internet promotion launching Summer in Phuket also looks to counter negative media reports about the effects of the global economic downturn and internal Thailand political issues.

On the heels of Phuket being named the number one luxury destination by the New York Times in January http://travel.nytimes.com/2009/01/11/travel/11phuket.html, the group is taking a proactive approach to promote Phuket and to support tourism.

“We’re looking to change the incorrect perception of Low Season that the weather in Phuket is poor. Phuket is a great destination which also has enjoyable sunny weather right through the year,” commented Dominique Rongé, Executive Assistant Manager at The Chedi Phuket, one of the campaign’s major supporters. “We need to be proactive in delivering our positive message to our audiences that Phuket’s luxury market is thriving despite the world tailspin and that we’re open all year for business.”

Thailand-Newsflash / Friedliches Ende der Proteste / Phuket Resorts / The Mangosteen Boutique resort and Spa

Phuket Thailand invites to celebrate Songkran Festival, Thai New Year!

Songkran_2009_web

To celebrate the Thai New Year (which we call Songkran Festival), we would like to invite you to our traditional ceremony by the pool area, starting from 12.00 noon.
All the team will meet at the pool to sprinkle water on Buddha images, wishing good luck and pouring scented water onto the hands of seniors or elders to make merits and to dedicate the result to their ancestors. The elders in return wish the youngsters good luck and prosperity.

Songkran is a Thai traditional New Year which starts on April 13 every year and lasts for 3 days.

Songkran is a Thai word which means "move" or "change place" as it is the day when the sun changes its position in the zodiac. It is also known as the "Water Festival" as people believe that water will wash away bad luck.

The provides a water gun for you to joyfully sprinkle water. To take our beach bus to go to the beach is most fun on this day too! Of course you will get soaking wet!

In the evening Chef and his team are preparing a special Thai Tradition Dinner set for you to enjoy Thai New Year.

Thai Set Menu - Price only 700 ++ Baht per couple

Phuket Resorts, The Mangosteen Solitude Spa at The Mangosteen Resort & Spa, Rawai

Phuket Resorts, Mangosteen is a special place. Perched atop a hill just south of Chalong, it commands a rare view of both sides of the island and the bays of both Nai Harn and Chalong. Enjoy a pampering treat at the Spa and leave yourself plenty of time to use the hotel facilities and stay for dinner.

Phuket Resorts, The Mangosteen Resort & SpaAfter a long week of sustained high stress levels, I was more than ready for peace, relaxation and pampering as I headed south towards the Mangosteen Resort and Spa.
Mangosteen is a special place. Perched atop a hill just south of Chalong, it commands a rare view of both sides of the island and the bays of both Nai Harn and Chalong.
Mangosteen is a privately owned and operated luxury boutique resort that offers the seclusion and personal attention hard to find in big international operations – yet maintains the high standards its discerning clientele have come to expect.
The Solitude Spa is a short stroll over a timber walkway from the airy reception. Smiles follow you every step of the way and the Solitude welcome is warm and exceptionally friendly. After an introduction to the treatment choices, my therapist Warunee greeted me with a soft smile and a beautiful ‘wai’ before escorting me to my private suite. Steam room, Jacuzzi room a few meters above the hotel pool and massage room with a panoramic view of the islands of Chalong Bay all make the most of design and location. Large tinted windows, but no outside areas, mean you remain comfortably cool while enjoying your surroundings.
Starting with aromatic steam, I felt my tension begin to evaporate. Feeling the onset of relaxation, I moved on to my first treatment –
a Herbal Scrub using a blend of traditional herbs and sesame oil – Nittaya’s recommendation.
Phuket Resort, Mangosteen Boutique Resort & Spa, http://www.mangosteen-phuket.com
“I can see your skin is not oily, so I wouldn’t recommend the salt scrub,” she’d told me.
An hour later, my skin felt revitalized, refreshed, very, very soft and definitely not too dry. Showered, I returned to the massage room and its stunning view, for one of Solitude’s new treatments – a Thai Reliever Massage. A mix of east and west, this treatment – using essential oils – ingeniously combines the stretching techniques of Thai massage with the smooth strokes and muscle manipulation of Western massage.
My treatment was rounded off with half an hour in one of the most vigorous Jacuzzis I’ve ever experienced, complemented by a serving of fresh fruit and herbal tea while I languished.
Try The Solitude Spa at Mangosteen Resort – but leave yourself plenty of time. Spa customers are free to use all the hotel facilities (swimming pool, fitness centre and restaurants). Go early afternoon and stay for dinner at one of Phuket’s most spectacularly-sited restaurants. Or even better, pamper yourself for a weekend in a Mangosteen Jacuzzi Villa.

Nai Harn Beach, one of the last beaches without longtail boats, jet skis, banana boats and other engine driven so called “pleasures”. Mangosteen guests enjoy the free ride on the open air shuttle to Nai Harn and of course the beach itself. Crystal clear water and clean sand, not crowded, no vendors… it’s a beach that reminds us how other places must have felt 20 years ago.

The Mangosteen Resort is hands down one of the best hotels in Phuket. It's expensive, but well worth every penny. It's located on a secluded hilltop away from the busy overpopulated beach areas. I watched the sunrise from my room which was great. The rooms are very spacious and the bathrooms are incredible. The Jacuzzi villas are amazing with an outdoor shower and Jacuzzi. The service was outstanding. They arranged local tours, gave good advice on shopping and other areas of interest. Arranged a free ride to a local restaurant instead of calling a taxi. The pool area is great and very relaxing. The hotels restaurant is great and the breakfast buffet is amazing. The spa is probably one of the best in Phuket as well. A great place for a romantic getaway.

Skål is the only international organization which brings together all sectors of the travel and tourism industry. Representing the industry's managers and executives, Skål members meet at local, national and international level in an environment of friendship to discuss subjects of common interest.

The first Club was founded in Paris in 1932 by travel trade managers who had been on an educational tour of Scandinavia and so the idea of professionals in travel and tourism working closely together in a spirit of friendship was born. The idea of professionalism and international friendship became immediately so popular that in l934, Skål achieved international status with the formation of the Association Internationale des Skål Clubs (A.I.S.C.), on the initiative of the first President of the Paris Skål Club and the man considered the "Father of Skål", Florimond Volckaert. The Association is now known worldwide as "Skål International".

From that modest beginning, Skål now numbers almost 25,000 members in over 500 Clubs spread throughout more than 80 countries. As in other associations of professionals most Skål activities take place locally, but the movement also features National and Area Committees under the umbrella of Skål International, which has its permanent General Secretariat in Torremolinos, Spain.

Skål International is governed by an Executive Committee of seven members, elected by member delegates to the General Assembly, which is held in conjunction with the World Congress. The General Secretariat is the management body. This five-day Congress is hosted by a different country each year, thus offering members and their companions the opportunity of observing, at first hand, the travel and tourism industry potential of other countries.
